Anything is possible if you are willing to work hard enough for it!
I’m Kornelia Hawrylewicz, I have received my Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University and I have a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counselling from Medaille, in Buffalo. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario, and currently hold the designation of Certified Canadian Counsellor offered by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. My passion has always been working with people and helping them cope with inevitable change. I believe in everyone’s ability to change and be successful in his or her endeavours. As such my goal is to promote change through an optimistic and positive approach.
I have several years working with a multitude of clients. These clients come from a variety of backgrounds, are in different age ranges, and present a large volume of different problems and concerns. I use a multitude of approaches in working with my clients. Given that no one client is like another, each person requires his or her own unique approach. However, I particularly enjoy approaches from the existential school of therapeutic work, in particular: the importance of responsibility.
I am currently practicing counselling in Mississauga at Hurontario and Matheson.
In addition to the above work I do, I am also involved in looking at the role bilingualism and other life experiences play in brain development. I am involved in this line of research at the Cognition and Neuroplasticity Lab at York University.
Some examples of issues and client concerns I work with:
- Hoarding behaviour
- Relationship difficulties
- Couples counselling
- Personal growth
- Low self-esteem
- Anger management
- Workplace stress
- Bereavement and grief
- Parenting difficulties
